Power of Three Dispatch 9/12: BLT

Three people in a kitchen admiring a huge BLT, one of whom is getting ready to take a huge bite of it. John Montagu, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, is said to have “invented” the basic meal of meat + bread. As the story goes, he was a voracious gambler and refused to leave the table to eat or to interrupt his playing with a meal that required utensils. Therefore, this rakish member of the Hellfire Club ordered meat and bread that he could manage with one hand so he could continue to throw dice with his other. The famous BLT sandwich is said to have evolved from the club sandwich, which featured bacon, turkey, lettuce, and tomato.

Some would argue it’s the “greatest sandwich in the world.” It is a study in contrastive textures: crispy, meaty bacon paired with crusty bread and the crunch of lettuce. It is a circus of flavors: mild tomato paired with the salty, rich pork and the tang of mayonnaise. It offers a diversity of temperatures and moistures: warm dry toast, chilled lettuce, and juicy tomato.

The moral of the story? The BLT is built out of components that contribute to the whole in a way that creates an entirely new eating experience. Lettuce alone, toast alone, even tomato or bacon alone, is nothing when compared to the BLT.

Ryan is the BREAD. He holds everything together. He’s a bit crusty, since he’s been here the longest, but no matter what the project is, he’s touching some part of it. Plus, he’s RYE-an. (Ba-dum, ching!)

Lauren is the LETTUCE. Green at heart 💚, Lauren is the “crunchiest” of our bunch. Her writing is a delightful, cool surprise. She’s mild (mannered), yet her presence is pleasantly assertive.

John is our BACON. He provides our signature design flavor and the WOW factor. There’s nothing stock going on here: we’ve got the real deal. Cured by his years of experience, the quality of our bacon can elevate your BLT to something really special.

Ben is our MAYO. Ben is reliably always there, sometimes lightly in the background with the camera and sometimes more prominently featured (garlic aioli, anyone?) as the video editor. While we might sometimes spread him thinly (sorry, Ben), he is still an amazing, effective addition.

Alex is the HOT PEPPERS you might elect to put on your BLT. He’s spicy, and his video editing and animation prowess add something special and unique to every production.

Madeline is the TOMATO. She keeps things fresh — from content development, to cutting edge digital communication strategy, to great writing and editing — we rely on her for making sure the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed.
