Have you noticed Lake Williams’s severe lack of water and wondered what’s going on? Have no fear, we’ll get you up to speed!
The dam was originally built in 1912 and after more than 100 years, it was time for some updating. York Water is undertaking this vast project to rebuild the dam and surrounding areas to keep it safe for York for the next 100-plus years.
The dam renovation is currently about 60% complete and on track to be ready to start filling later this year – 2023. It is expected to take several months to refill Lake Williams’ 1.144 billion gallons.
According to Mark Wheeler, the chief operating officer, approximately one inch of rain equals a foot of water in the reservoir.
We’ve been tasked with documenting this historic project. The Hayman team has made many trips to the project site to get drone aerial and ground-level photography and video.
Check out the project-update video we created below for a look into the history and current state of the Lake Williams Dam.
