Hi, my name is Georgie and I’m excited to be the latest team member to join Hayman Studio’s dynamic bunch of creative gurus. My journey to reach this point has been a rambling and uncommon path filled with twists, bumps, and several fallen trees for me to hurdle along the track. Let me elaborate.
I spent the first portion of my career in the banking sector in Perth, Western Australia. Throughout my time at this bank, now the largest bank in Australia, I worked in business development, portfolio management, and lending. Following the arrival of my children, I took my career down a notch and embarked on the new challenge of motherhood. Believe me, the part-time hours in the office were my rest days.
In 2016, my family was thrown a curve ball in the form of an international opportunity through my husband’s career. Our thirst for adventure took over and we packed up our lives and moved to Helsinki, Finland. That’s right, from sunny Perth to the most northern capital city in Europe. The culture shock was immense as was the language!
It was this opportunity that changed my life. I grabbed every opportunity I could: working as a journalist for a local English media publication, learning the Finnish language, and completing a degree in marketing. After living just south of the arctic circle for 3 years I was confronted with another life-changing decision; life was about to get extremely difficult for my children in Finland due to their schooling situation. Do I move the family back to Australia or take on a fresh challenge?
It was 2019 when I moved to York, PA. The English language has been a very welcome change; however, I was surprised at the cultural disparities between the USA and Australia. Since arriving I have thrown myself into everything USA; vacationing in Maine, hiking the Appellation trail, watching the Space X rocket launch in Florida, Christmas in Gatlinburg TN, a Nashville visit, staying in a Wig Wam, visiting the Ark Experience in Kentucky, being personally toured around Annapolis by the mayor (he’s from my hometown), ziplining in Harpers Ferry, and I bought a dog.
Surprisingly enough, between adventures exploring the country, I have also had time to squeeze in some work since arriving. At first, I kept busy freelance writing, then migrated to a marketing role with a local realtor where I have been happy for the past 3 years. I now head into a fresh and exciting chapter of my life working in an industry I truly love. I look forward to helping Ryan and their team learn some Aussie terms as well as keeping up the high level of awesomeness the clients of Hayman Studio have grown to expect.
You never know, the team may even get to taste the fabled Vegemite one day!
